Our beloved friend and dharma teacher, Matt Sherman, passed away on July 18, 2023, at about 6 pm MT. Our whole community deeply mourns his passing.
Matt was the face of Eyes of Compassion Sangha for many years. He and his wife Margit are dear to us. Matt will be missed so very much, but interbeing tells us he lives in the spirit if our Sangha. We send love and compassion to Matt and to Margit.
Matt Sherman, Truly Holding Joy, was ordained as a Dharma teacher by Thich Nhat Hanh in Plum Village in May of 2014. He and his wife Margit met in Plum Village in 2002.
In the June 2016 issue (#72) of The Mindfulness Bell, Matt wrote of his concern about racial justice. “I am becoming more aware of the suffering caused by exploitation, social injustice, stealing, and oppression. . . . my heart is calling for me to become engaged, to do what I can to raise collective awareness and to give voice to the question of what can be done to change this narrative . . . ”
We do not yet have any details on a celebration of life for Matt.
